BUILDING INITIATIVE
Building the
CUMC Congregation!
SEPTEMBER
2007 OPEN HOUSE
The final touches are being put on the New
Edition to our Church, with 5 Classrooms and a Renovated Kitchen
just about ready for our busy Fall. We will be hosting a
series of Open House Events in September 2007 to mark the
Opening and Celebration of Jesus Christ at Centreville United
Methodist Church. Please check the
Current Events and
Home Pages for updates on the schedule
of events, and THANKS to all who continue to pledge and tithe
allowing us to offer programs to Centreville and surrounding
areas.
GROUND
BREAKING TAKES PLACE
The official Ground Breaking took place and the
new addition to CUMC is underway. On Sunday, November
26th, the Official Ground Breaking Ceremony took place before a
crowd of over 150 persons. The preparation and construction
process began the last week in November 2006, and should be
complete in the Summer of 2007.
CONSTRUCTION/RENOVATION UPDATE
The Renovations and Construction of our new edition has
begun. During the month of August, the classrooms,
bathrooms, and hallway by the Fellowship Hall will be under
construction. This area will be sealed off during this
period. To facilitate this, CUMC will be holding one
joint service each Sunday in August at 10:00 AM in the
Sanctuary. During this time there will not be a
nursery available due to the renovations.
BUILDING COMMITTEE
RECOMMENDATION & CUMC AFFIRMATIVE VOTE
June 25, 2006
The Building Committee recommended and the congregation of
Centreville United Methodist Church voted affirmative to
accept the following recommendation of the Building
Committee:
The Centreville United Methodist Church should build a five
(5) classroom addition, shown as "New Construction", and
complete the renovations of the kitchen. The proposed
construction is estimated to cost $1,280,000. The
construction will be paid for with the $613,000 already in
the Building Fund and a 15 year mortgage in the amount of
$667,000. The estimated annual repayment of the mortgage is
$71,832. Additional construction of three (3) classrooms,
would take place if a large gift or gifts is/are received or
the congregation increases their intentions to repay the
mortgage by approximately $16,000 per year.
BUILDING COMMITTEE
Update by Barry Ebersole
Members from the Building Committee, the Finance Committee
and Jo Anne Baker from Torchio Architects met with the
District Board of Church Location and Building on Thursday,
May 18, 2006 to present the building plan and financial plan
for our proposed educational addition. At that meeting we
showed the Board the eight (8) classroom addition that we
had presented to the Congregation in 2002 before the initial
fundraising campaign began and again in 2005 and 2006, when
the Finance Committee began the campaign to raise pledges
for the Mortgage Fund. The current cost estimate for the
eight-classroom addition is $1,600,000. We also showed the
Board how the eight-classroom addition can be constructed as
a five (5) classroom addition now and three (3) classrooms
added in the future. The current cost estimate for the
five-classroom addition is $1,334,000. We showed the Board
how we are prepared to pay for the addition. The Board
approved our efforts to date and gave us the permission to
hold a congregational meeting in late June 2006 to vote upon
proceeding forward with our proposed educational addition.
The
Finance Committee is still trying to gather more pledges for
the Mortgage Fund. With the pledges that have been received
to date we can build only five classrooms now. This is less
than what the Church needs to have an effective educational
program and meet our other out-reach needs. The needs survey
that was completed in 2002 showed the need for eight new
classrooms and our needs have not diminished in the last
four years. The needs have only increased as our ministries
have added more people to our congregation. Congregational
giving is going to tell the Building Committee how many
classrooms to build in 2006. Please give, as you are lead
keeping in mind the needs of the congregation.
The
Building Committee will be meeting over the next couple of
months to finalize the building plans. We have some decisions to
make regarding building components. We promise you that we will
use your dollars wisely to build as many classrooms as possible
now.
If the
congregation gives the Building Committee the permission to move
forward, preparatory operations to get ready for construction
will begin in the last week of August or the first week of
September. Groundbreaking will take place in late September or
early October. Our hope is the have the new addition ready for
occupancy by Labor Day 2007.
