Dates:

Beginning Friday 6pm February 3rd through Saturday February 4th ending 10:30pm

Instructors:

Rev. Mark Farnell

Ken Laing

Laura Phillips

Dina Clark

Susan Klepper

Class schedule:

All classes will be 1 hour in length. There will be 45 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes for the class to break up into discussion groups.

Sunday May 20, 2012 the class will become members of Centreville United Methodist Church. Make plans to invite everyone you know to this most exciting and life changing occasion. Cross and Flame

Purpose of the class:

1.     Confirmation is the continuation of one’s faith journey (a journey begun at baptism) and the beginning of one’s covenant relationship with the church – not an end unto itself.

2.    Confirmation is more than just a lock in. Confirmands must be fully engaged in the life of the church through worship, service, small groups, and involvement in other ministries.

3.    Confirmands should emerge from their confirmation experience prepared for a life of Christian discipleship.

Objectives of this course:

1.     Give confirmands a basic knowledge and understanding of the Christian story, beginning with creation then the introduction of sin and evil into the world, reaching its climax with redemption through Christ’s death and resurrection, and continuing – through the Holy Spirit and the church – into the present day and beyond. The “Know Your Story” unit deals mainly with this objective.

2.    Teach confirmands about the core beliefs, practices, and emphases of United Methodist Christians. The “Confirm Your Faith” unit deals mainly with this objective.

3.    Explore with confirmands the vows that they will take if they choose to be confirmed so they understand the commitment they will be making and the expectations that come with being confirmed as a professing member of The United Methodist Church. The “Live Your Commitment” unit deals mainly with this objective.

  Parents We Want You!

We want your young person to have a transforming experience at the 2012 Confirmation Lock-In. In order for that to happen we need parents to volunteer their time. Our Safe Sanctuary policy has many guidelines that ask for an adult presence for a certain number of youth. By doing so, we will create a safe atmosphere for your young person. Please fill out the time slots below and deliver it back to the church office. Thank you!
