Additional
Information about CUMC's "Hearts of Worship"
In the spring of the
year 2000, Centreville United Methodist Church decided
to introduce a new kind of worship opportunity to its
members and the surrounding communities, a contemporary
praise and worship service. Guitars, keyboards, drums,
and vocalists provided and led the music. Eight years
later this 8:45 a.m. CUMC service remains a popular
choice of young and older members alike.
This group remained
nameless until three years ago. One evening they were
invited to share their ministry with another local
church that wanted to begin their own contemporary
service. The group had recently learned a new song that
had words expressing the thought that the time of
worship, its heart, belonged to the Lord, and it’s all
about Him. As they sang the words they realized that
they didn’t want to be thought of as performers, but
rather leaders of worship who honored their Savior
through music. Thus the name of the group evolved, the
Hearts of Worship.
Current members are
as follows: Clint Connolly, Mike Connolly, Rachel
Connolly, Debra Ebersole, Katie Laing, Casey Strotman,
Greg Torchio, and Julia Morris. The group plays a mix
of contemporary Christian, traditional gospel, and
Christian classic rock music.
